People always ask what SAMA means. It started as kind of a joke. It was a sleeting, snowy day in early December. My friend and I were surfing a swell in Grand Haven. I looked over at him knowing we were supposed to both be at pre-Christmas family functions soon, and said "We are like Self Absorbed Michigan Adventurers." That kind of stuck, and like many of our friends we have a common passion for outdoor sports in Michigan, and we go out in any weather to get our sessions. He replied "Ya, SAMA!"

So it was born, the SAMA logo was fashioned by another like minded surfer friend from Grand Haven. SAMA is for all of you year round Michiganders and vacationers who know, love, and respect all the outdoor activities there are to do in Michigan. No matter the weather you will find us us out enjoying all the benefits of our unique freshwater paradise.

Sleeping Bear Dunegrass Blues Festival

Crew, lets start planning this! Since, I will be in Austria during Rothbury, and it is so expensive let's rally a big group to Dunegrass this year. If you click on the title it will bring you to the site. The line up looks really killer for our local scene! It should be a great time.

Also, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are playing this Friday at Van Andel! Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate the last day of school. Anyone up for it??

Spring in the Haven

Hey Crew,
I haven't posted anything in quite a while so I thought I should see if I remembered how. Maybe one of these days Sunny and I will unload our PR photos from our camera and get them on SAMA. Til then, I thought I'd throw a couple of shots of last Thursday's kite session in GH. It's been fun, lots of kiting and a couple of surf sessions in the past week. If only we could put away the 6 mm wetties...

Instituto de Lenjuajes

Samainians! Anyone interested in some Spanish and Surfing down in Puerto Escondido!?!? Here is Brian Vander Kooy originally from Grand Haven, and his business down in Mexico. Click on the title to check out his school and website. Very nice! Brian is a very cool dude that I had the opportunity to meet the other night. He is currently living the dream! He runs Instituto de Lenjuajes during the spring, summer, fall, and spends his winters teaching Spanish at the Colorado Mountain College, and part time snowboard instructing for Vail. I say we put together a trip down there soon! A little Surf and Spanish, plus maybe some volunteering at the local orphanage? Samainians want to help too!!
