People always ask what SAMA means. It started as kind of a joke. It was a sleeting, snowy day in early December. My friend and I were surfing a swell in Grand Haven. I looked over at him knowing we were supposed to both be at pre-Christmas family functions soon, and said "We are like Self Absorbed Michigan Adventurers." That kind of stuck, and like many of our friends we have a common passion for outdoor sports in Michigan, and we go out in any weather to get our sessions. He replied "Ya, SAMA!"

So it was born, the SAMA logo was fashioned by another like minded surfer friend from Grand Haven. SAMA is for all of you year round Michiganders and vacationers who know, love, and respect all the outdoor activities there are to do in Michigan. No matter the weather you will find us us out enjoying all the benefits of our unique freshwater paradise.

So crew, please take a few minutes to check out the link below, I had one of the best vacations of my life there last year, and we hope put another memory in the SAMA book of epicness this year again! Wasatch Mountains to Crystal Mountain in 5 Days

Crew,

In pure SAMA style, I followed up my Wasatch Mountain trip (elevation 11,000') with a trip to Crystal Mountain (elevation 750'). Sunny and I took 8 high schoolers and met up with Mitch and Natalie for some fun Michigan-style riding. We all had fun and didn't lose any of the kids... as far as I know...

Samanians,
Last week I snuck out to Utah to snowboard with my buddy Keto and his crew for a couple days. We rode at Brighton on Tuesday and Snowbird on Wednesday. I was back at work Thursday morning and no one was the wiser. Good crew, reasonably good conditions, lots of fun.

Simonation: SAMA Next Generation

Announcing the arrival of Simon! Prepare to meet your nemesis. Simon is approximately 20 inches long, weighs 6 lbs. and eats more milk than all of you combined. So keep a look over your shoulder the next time you drop into an empty wave, a powder-filled NOMO bowl, or smell something funny. IT COULD BE THE SIMONATOR!

Peace,

Simon Sispera's Dad

North Mo Pow Pow Ka Pow

Some more shots from Sama Saturday. Brennon and I hiked the beautiful powder filled dunes of Muskegon State Park pre Reeds Lake festivities! We couldn't believe there was that much untouched snow sitting in our backyard. This weekend was sweet! Thanks for the kiting lessons Lesa, Aaron, Anna, and Ben!! Anna was the talk of Reeds Lake after her big air! :-)

We have 6 lift tickets for sale for Caberfae Peaks! Only $10 a piece!! Not valid on Saturdays. We purchased them in the beginning of the season 4 tickets for $49 deal. We are only using one each, and have 6 left and would hate to see them not all get used up this winter. They will expire end of this season, so if anyone wants one call my cell 616.990.3575.

Also....we never saw a trip report from your Bohemia trip guys!! How was it??

Austrian Gluehwein!!!

Gluehwein Party!

We had a great time Friday night at the house. We had a traditional hot drink straight from the Alps called Gluehwein. Austrian Apres ski tradition! Anna made a great snow bar, and we decorated the deck to look as much like a ski hut deck in the Alps, downloaded some traditional Apres ski music. The only thing that was left up to the imagination was the jagged peaks when you look up. This is just another reason we need a SAMA jet for weekend trips to Alps for riding and skiing. Maybe some day, let's do it dreamers! Thanks to everyone who came over. We really enjoyed it!

Surfrider Foundation Meeting Tonight 7pm

Tonight we are meeting again at Doug McNeil's office on Washington Ave. downtown Grand Haven next to the old Earth's Edge building at 7pm. We are planning on keeping this meeting to an hour, and then retiring to a local watering hole if you feel so inclined to join us. Thanks to everyone for supporting us, and we hope to see you tonight!
